This policy explains how Vidyana (operated by Vidyana Edu Pvt. Ltd.) collects, uses and protects your personal data. By using our website or services, you agree to this policy. We comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA).
1. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
- Account data: Name, email address, mobile number and password when you register.
- Profile data: City, educational background, course preferences and progress information you provide.
- Payment data: Transaction IDs and order details. We do not store card numbers or UPI credentials — these are handled entirely by our payment gateway (Razorpay).
- Communication data: Messages, queries and support tickets you send us.
- Usage data: Pages visited, course content accessed, time spent, device type and browser information collected automatically.
- Marketing data: Preferences and responses to communications if you have opted in.
2. How we use your data
We use your personal data to:
- Create and manage your account and course enrollments
- Deliver live class Zoom links and course access to your registered email and WhatsApp
- Process payments and issue receipts
- Issue completion certificates
- Send course reminders, updates and support communications
- Connect you with internship and job opportunities where applicable
- Improve our platform based on usage patterns
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your data for automated decision-making that significantly affects your legal rights.
3. Data sharing
We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Instructors: Your name and enrollment status are visible to the instructor of courses you are enrolled in, for the purpose of delivering classes and tracking attendance.
- Employer partners: If you apply for an internship or job through Vidyana, your application details (name, phone, email, college, year of study and your optional message) are shared with the relevant employer. You control when this happens by submitting an application.
- Service providers: We use Razorpay (payments), Supabase (database and authentication), Bunny.net (video delivery), Resend (email) and Zoom (live classes). These providers process data strictly to deliver their services.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order or government authority.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party. Ever.
4. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on secure servers managed by Supabase, hosted in India and/or Singapore. We implement the following security measures:
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Row-level security policies limiting data access by user role
- Password hashing (we never store plain-text passwords)
- Regular automated backups
- Access controls limiting staff access to personal data
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, subject to any legal obligations to retain records.
5. Your rights
Under the DPDPA 2023 and applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time.
- Nominate: Under the DPDPA, you may nominate another individual to exercise your data rights in the event of your death or incapacity.

6. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to:

7. Children's privacy
Our services are intended for students aged 13 and above. For students under 18, we recommend that a parent or guardian reviews this policy and supervises account creation. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at privacy@vidyana.org.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify registered users via email and display a notice on our website. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
